TR-YÖS - Türkiye Yurt Dışından Öğrenci Kabul Sınavı - is the admission exam that ÖSYM, Türkiye's national measurement, selection and placement centre, runs for students who completed their secondary education outside Türkiye. It is one standardised test, and your result is reported on a 100-500 scale that you can use when you apply to universities in Türkiye.
Not always. TR-YÖS is one of several routes into a Turkish university. ÖSYM's own guide notes that universities decide their own admission criteria, and many consider secondary school grades, national exams and international exams alongside a TR-YÖS score. Some universities accept only TR-YÖS, some run their own entrance exam, and others admit on your diploma and grades. Which applies to you depends on your nationality, your results, and the university and programme you choose - send us your documents and we will map it out before you pay for anything.
The most common alternatives are your high school diploma and transcript with a strong grade average, your country's national exam - for example HSSC in Pakistan, JAMB in Nigeria or Thanawiya Amma in Egypt - and international exams such as SAT, A-Level or the IB Diploma. Some universities also run their own entrance exam under their own name and calendar. Every university publishes its own list and its own minimum grades each year, and competitive fields such as medicine and dentistry are stricter. TR-YÖS is held twice a year. The first 2026 session took place on 12 April, with results published on 7 May. The second session, TR-YÖS/2, takes place on 11 October 2026 at 11:15 Türkiye time, and results are published on 5 November 2026.
The exam has 80 multiple-choice questions and lasts 100 minutes: 40 questions of Numerical Aptitude and 40 of Basic Mathematics. Every question has five options and a quarter of a point is deducted for each wrong answer. Raw scores are standardised, then weighted - 0.45 for Numerical Aptitude and 0.55 for Basic Mathematics - and reported on a 100-500 scale.
The exam is open to final-year secondary school students and graduates who completed their secondary education outside Türkiye - foreign nationals, blue card holders, TRNC nationals and dual citizens who are not Turkish citizens. Students who attended or graduated from a secondary school in Türkiye or the TRNC fall outside the application rules, apart from a small number of exceptions set out in the ÖSYM guide. ÖSYM runs the exam in 15 cities across Türkiye and in more than 60 centres abroad, including Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Kenya, Germany and the United States. For most students that means sitting the exam without leaving their own country.
Questions are set in Turkish and supplied with translations in English, Arabic, French, German and Russian, so you can work through the paper in the language you read most comfortably. You choose your language when you register with ÖSYM, so it is worth deciding early.
The fee depends on where you sit the exam. For the October 2026 session ÖSYM set three bands: 3,700 TL for centres such as Türkiye, Germany, France and the United States; 1,650 TL for centres such as Pakistan, India, Kazakhstan, Algeria and Syria; and 1,150 TL for centres such as Afghanistan, Nigeria, Kenya and Uganda.
Registration goes through ÖSYM's candidate system. You create an ÖSYM candidate account, complete the application form for the session you want, choose your exam centre and the language of your question booklet, and pay the fee by card before the deadline. For the October 2026 session applications ran from 9 July to 3 August, with a late window from 7 to 11 August.
